Definately worth trying, my friend, FT, has german plates on his british Vw passat, He was asked by a policyman at Manchester airport, "is that car german or british?" he replied, "german" he wasnt lying as they are manufactured in germany, the officer drove away. I am pretty sure the British policymen, who are notoriously bad at foreign languages, like most Brits, truly cant be bothered to try and trace the owner of a vehicle in Lithuania for example, for the sake of collecting £60.
