Customs & excise

Is there any advice on how to deal with the Customs & excise criminals at airports.
It has been a while since I have travelled abroad but am I right in thinking that we are asked if we would like to participate in paying duty tax on goods that are brought into this country and we have the right to say NO.

I don't know if they ask that, but if they do, then NO is an excellent answer.

I am guessing that if you say no they will just confiscate your goods. I know someone who this has happened to and he just gave up the goods so he didn't have to pay the ridiculous duty they were claiming.
Even if you are in a minority of one, the truth is still the truth.
